About the Emergency Assistance Fund

The University of Nebraska System's Emergency Assistance Fund enables the university to help currently enrolled students and current university employees (faculty and staff) who face financial hardship resulting from emergency or crisis situations such as natural disasters, home displacement, and food insecurity. 

Do I Qualify?

Receiving Assistance

Those applying for assistance from the Emergency Assistance Fund must have a documented hardship, event, or emergency that has caused financial stress. Detailed information on qualifications can be found in the policy linked below. 

Examples of Qualifying Events

  • Natural disaster (displacement or destruction of your primary residence)
  • Death of a family member
  • Life-altering accidents

Complete the application form linked below and submit to NUemergencyfund@nebraska.edu. The committee may request additional information from the applicant prior to making a decision.

The committee will review your application, determine whether financial assistance will be awarded and notify you of its decision. Detailed information on notification and payment is available in the EAF policy.

The Emergency Assistance Fund is administered by a committee that includes a representative from each NU System campus and a chairperson appointed by the President.

Donate to the Emergency Assistance Fund

Many University of Nebraska faculty, staff and students are eager to help. There are several opportunities for employees to assist colleagues and students in need through the , which helps currently enrolled students and current university employees who face financial hardship resulting from emergency or crisis situations such as COVID-19.

The Emergency Assistance Fund relies on contributions from individuals, companies, and organizations to help with this assistance program. Every gift helps, and when combined with the donations of others, will provide the help a student or employee needs when facing the unexpected.
