The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will meet on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus on Friday, April 11. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the UNO STEM TRAIL Center, 6005 University Drive N., in Omaha. The meeting is open to the public and will also be live streamed at .
A detailed agenda for the Board meeting is available here.
NU President Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., will brief the board on the university’s state budget request and ongoing federal funding. Additionally, he will provide an update on the university’s strategic planning process, which the board will review during the meeting.
"A well-defined strategic plan is essential to ensuring the University of Nebraska remains strong and resilient in the face of financial challenges, while also positioning us to maximize opportunities during times of growth,” said Dr. Gold. “Thoughtful planning allows us to invest wisely in our students, faculty, and staff, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to excel. Given the university’s significant economic and social impact across Nebraska, this work is not just about our campuses—it’s about the future prosperity and wellbeing of our entire state."
The board also will recognize the late Jack Hoffman with an honorary degree. Hoffman’s historic run and touchdown during the 2013 Husker Spring Game spurred a movement and eventually a foundation that has raised millions of dollars for pediatric cancer research. The board will also hear a report on naming the recording booth at Memorial Stadium in honor of Greg Sharpe, the voice of the Huskers from 2008-2024, who died earlier this year after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
The board also will recognize Jim McClurg, who served on the NU Board of Regents from 2002-2012, including as board chairman from 2006-2012, with Regent Emeritus status.
Other items for the Board’s consideration include:
- Creation of a graduate certification for emergency nurse practitioners, to be administered by the College of Nursing at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), Addendum XII-A-4;
- Approval of the naming of the John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, Addendum XII-B-2;
