Many University of Nebraska faculty, staff and students are eager to help. There are several opportunities for employees to assist colleagues and Nebraskans in need, as described below.
If You Want to Help
Dollars: Donate to the NU Emergency Assistance Fund
The University of Nebraska enables the university to help currently enrolled students and current university employees who face financial hardship resulting from emergency or crisis situations such as natural disasters, home displacement and food insecurity. These circumstances include the 2019 flooding that has significantly affected people and the state.
The University of Nebraska Emergency Assistance Fund relies on contributions from individuals, companies and organizations who wish to help with this assistance program. Every gift helps, and when combined with the donations of others, will provide the help a student or employee needs when facing the unexpected.

Flood Recovery Serviceships
Building off a successful model with the Rural Futures Institute, we are funding 50 Flood Recovery Serviceships for University of Nebraska students this summer. This program will place 50 students in impacted communities across Nebraska, with a focus on:
- Engaging local leaders active in flood recovery efforts and contributing in ways that add value.
- Identifying service projects (immediate or longer-term) that could be addressed by teams of students, staff or faculty, and facilitating projects to be conducted this summer.
- Representing the University of Nebraska and connecting our resources with local needs.
Flood Recovery Serviceships are currently open for application. Interested students can apply .
Community Hosts Wanted for Flood Serviceship Projects
The University of Nebraska invites community leaders to apply to serve as hosts for the new NU Flood Serviceship program that will send students across the state this summer to assist in recovery efforts.
